DescriptionThis ticket was issued as part of a 1771 lottery to raise funds in support of Philadelphia’s American China Manufactory. The firm was established while popular sentiment against British imports was high, but as the British repealed taxes and Americans ended boycotts, the American China Manufactory struggled to compete against imported goods and closed the following year.
