Description

In this photograph by John Divola, the illuminated windows of an isolated house provide stark contrast to the barren desert surroundings of Southern California and spark curiosity about the lives of the inhabitants. Divola noted, "This area is the final edge of a vast urban expanse. For social, financial, or personal reasons, individuals are pushed, or pulled, or simply seek this literal cultural edge. Beyond this point is unoccupied desert."
