Ruth Orkin grew up in
Hollywood as an avid moviegoer, seeking autographs from famous stars. Therefore,
it is no surprise that her photographic career brought her into contact with
many celebrities, among them the author and two leading women from the play
“The Member of the Wedding,” who are shown here in this candid portrait. At
this point in her career, Orkin was very involved in photojournalism, and she
took this photograph as part of her first assignment for Life magazine.
