DescriptionMasahisa Fukase began his best-known series, Ravens, during his intensely emotional recovery from the pain of a divorce. While on a train returning to his hometown, he got off at various stops and began to photograph ravens, which in Japan portend bad luck. Soon Fukase was obsessed with their darkness and loneliness and captured ravens in mid-flight, alone, or perched in trees at dusk with glowing eyes, as seen here.
