Anne Noggle served as a member of the Women Airforce Service Pilots during WWII before becoming a photographer. Her photography frequently addressed the aging female body, boldly and humorously countering predominant representations of gender, age, and sexuality and accepted notions of how photography should depict women’s bodies. In Stellar by Starlight #2, Noggle playfully evokes the occult—reversing tropes that demonize women—to create an engaging and affirming self-portrait.
