DescriptionThe battle of Monterrey took place in September of 1846, relatively early in the Mexican-American War.  The Bishop’s Palace, subject of this print, stood atop a strategic hill just outside the city.  United States forces led by Zachary Taylor ultimately forced an armistice and the surrender of the city.
Provenance[Kennedy Galleries, New York]; purchased by Miss Ima Hogg, 1958 given to MFAH, 1969.
