[1] According to Ducrey (2005), the painting was acquired in 1904 from Galerie Bernheim-Jeune by Galerie Blot, which was in business from 1899–1936 and run Eugène Blot (Seurre, 1883–Reims, 1976).

[2] Ducrey (2005). Galerie Druet was founded in 1903 by Alfonse Eugène Druet (1867–1916). After his death, his widow Lucie (dates unknown) inherited the business, which was run by Jos. Hessel and Charles Pacquement. “Galerie Druet,” Bloomsbury Visual Arts. https://www.bloomsburyvisualarts.com/ (Accessed by Julia May Boddewyn, 15 September 2024).

[3] Ducrey (2005). The source for Ducrey’s information is unknown. This painting was not found in the gallery’s stockbooks (1909–1938). Albert Marquet Research Archives and Galerie Druet Records, The Wildenstein Plattner Institute, Inc. Digitized: https://digitalprojects.wpi.art/archive/collections/detail?id=475606-stock-books (Accessed by Julia May Boddewyn, 16 November 2024).

[4] Ducrey (2005). Joseph Charles “Jean” Desbons married Cahen’s daughter, Jacqueline, in 1933. Geneanet: https://gw.geneanet.org/grodicq?n=desbons&oc=&p=maie+joseph+charles+jean Accessed by Julia May Boddewyn, 20 Nov. 2024.

[5] Since Desbons is identified as the father of the seller at Sotheby’s, London in 1989, the seller, listed as Private collection, Paris, must be Jacqueline Desbons.

[6] Both Gibson and Reichenbach are known from Ducrey (2005).

[7] Lempertz confirmed that the painting was sold by a private Swiss collection. Email to Julia May Boddewyn, 20 Nov. 2024.
