Lebohang Kganye’s video was inspired by her visit to the Owl House, created by outsider artist Helen Martins, in Nieu Bethesda, South Africa. The house and land are decorated with fields of ground glass and more than 300 handmade statues of owls, camels, peacocks, pyramids, and people. Villagers there told Kganye elaborate tales about Martins, which she re-created as silhouette cut-outs, each tale playing out as a different scene.
