Description

The invention of photography provided viewers with new ways to experience the world. Far-flung places could now be seen in one’s own living room; the smallest specimens could be enlarged and presented on paper; and movements—many too fast for the human eye to process—were captured in split-second frames. With advancements in photographic technology came new images of motion, made not only by artists and scientists but also by everyday amateur photographers, eager to capture the dynamism of their world.
