Description

Arien Chang Castán’s initial exposure to photography in the early 2000s consisted of little more than books borrowed from the Spanish Cultural Center and basic darkroom instruction he received at an old photography studio where ID photos were still shot, developed, and printed in analog fashion. He soon adopted a documentary style of street photography. Shooting a military parade in Havana in 2007, Chang hinted at what was missing from the scene: Fidel Castro had been ill and absent from public view for some time, so spectators watching military equipment roll by were waiting to see if their president would appear.
