DescriptionAs head of portrait photography for MGM, George Hurrell was tasked with making glamorous photographic portraits of the studio’s leading actors. Known for its slogan “more stars than there are in heaven,” MGM worked tirelessly to promote the cult of personality surrounding its leading actors, including Eve Whitney, who starred in many of the studio’s films throughout the 1940s. Hurrell’s portraits of Whitney and other actors were utilized in all sorts of promotional imagery and products, including a series of puzzles that allowed fans to collect and assemble their favorite actors of the era.
