Untitled balances the dramatic vertical of the
wooden column and found metal elements
with expansive lines of welded steel that
extend horizontally into space as they coil
around a wooden gourd. A distinctive early
work, this sculpture established Hunt’s
formal vocabulary—combining disparate
forms and biomorphic shapes—for which
he later would become known
