Although he is
principally known for his architectural and interior photography, John Mark
Hall utilized his exacting eye for light, shape, and structure in other ways.
In Groundwork, he focused on fleeting moments in which architecture and
environment interact, recording seemingly infinite variations of form as
sunlight passed through framing architecture and onto the grassy ground nearby.
What appear to be Minimalist or Conceptual compositions from a distance, reveal
themselves as soft and quietly poetic on closer inspection.
ProvenanceThe artist; Maria Morris Hambourg; given to MFAH, 2019.
