Keith Carter grew up in Beaumont, Texas, raised by his mother, who worked as the local portrait photographer. These experiences informed Carter’s own photographic work as he built a career making pictures of the people and animals inhabiting the landscape of the American South. Portraying his subjects with reverence and a poetic sensibility, Carter draws out the beauty and quiet profundity of everyday life.
