Description

In 1923, fearing that his photographic practice had
stalled, Edward Weston relocated to Mexico with his lover and frequent model,
the enigmatic photographer Tina Modotti. Weston may have been correct in
asserting that a change of location would jump-start his artistry. In Mexico,
Weston abandoned staid studio portraiture, choosing instead an unhampered
approach. He photographed his subjects like Modotti outside, silhouetted
against the infinite sky.

Provenance[The Witkin Gallery, New York]; purchased by Gerald Moorhead, Houston, October 18, 1978; given to MFAH, 2018.
