Kenji Nakahashi was perpetually curious, and his everyday observations and encounters living in New York became the premise of his artistic inquiries. In this photograph, Nakahashi’s placement of the pecan in the decontextualized void of the studio introduces uncertainty to the scale of the nut, allowing it to take on myriad associations ranging from landscape to the human body. This sort of photographic experimentation is characteristic of Nakahashi’s conceptually driven work that explores the materiality of everyday objects.
