DescriptionThis Iznik ceramic dish, decorated with tulips, carnations, and prunus blossoms, provides an exquisite example of the classic mid-16th-century Ottoman floral style. Floral symbolism permeated Ottoman culture: the tulip symbolized nobility, privilege, and love, and was associated with the sultans. Iznik, a town in the Bursa region of Türkiye, was known for producing ceramics used for serving dishes in the court and for wealthy nobles.
