DescriptionOver the past two decades, Tom Friedman has
explored various approaches to self-portraiture, from sculpting his likeness
out of an aspirin tablet to monumental figures that tower over 30 feet tall. Wall, however, is among Friedman’s first
departures into video. Conveying the illusion of a ghostly hand knocking and
waving at the spectator, the work could be read as a self-portrait, reflecting
the artist’s subtle but intangible presence in the gallery.
