DescriptionEssentially
an illustrated trade catalogue for plaster casts of geometric solids,
architectural ornament, and sculptural reliefs used to teach drawing, this rare
volume lies at the intersection of photography, commerce, science, and art.
More than a mere sales tool, however, the photographs were offered as a type of
manual, evidence that photography was gradually working its way into art schools
in the later 19th century and would soon replace plaster casts like those
offered here, which had long been a foundation of artistic training.
