DescriptionThe diamond-shaped teapot was formed by using press molding technology. The body, foot, lid, spout, handle, and lion finial were all created in separate molds. The two-color pattern in red and cream is often referred to by collectors as “elephant’s tooth.” Called agate ware, it is a type of pottery made to resemble agate. Different colored clays were combined to imitate the veining of the hard stone. It was made by the ancient Romans and revived in the 18th century in Staffordshire, England.
