Renowned for his large-scale photographs of the American West, Richard Misrach has long pursued landscape photography in an effort to depict humankind’s impact on the environment. Turning his camera on the iconic Half Dome at Yosemite, Misrach offers a startling contrast to the type of Edenic images of the Sierra Nevada that pervade the history of photography. The skeletal, carbonized remains of trees forebode greater environmental trauma and decline, as Half Dome sits solemnly in the background, shrouded by the hazy, dense atmosphere.
