DescriptionThough this chair shares several characteristics with New York examples, such as the tassel-pattern splat, the gadrooning of the lower edge of the front rail and the pronounced “heels” of the rear feet, there is a possibility that its origin could be English.
Provenance[O. Rundle Gilbert, Garrison, New York, by 1951]; [Ginsburg & Levy, New York, September 1951–September 10, 1947]; purchased by Miss Ima Hogg, September 10, 1947; given to MFAH, 1969.
