Sudek’s photographs are often the result of prolonged study
and an intimate familiarity with location. Remarkably attuned to the quality of
light emanating from his studio’s window and the seasonal changes in the garden
directly outside, Sudek photographed the window of his studio from 1940 to
1954. Beyond the veil of condensation clinging to the glass, spring flowers blooming,
or leafy vines obscuring the view outside, these images give a personal glimpse
into the subtle changes within Sudek’s interior life.
