DescriptionChampioning photography’s place as a modern art form, Alfred Stieglitz was among the most influential figures shaping the medium’s direction during the first part of the 20th century. Offering a reverent and intimate view of the photographer and gallerist, Dorothy Norman’s pictures celebrate Stieglitz and his last gallery, An American Place. A social activist, writer, and tireless supporter of the arts, as well as a protégé, assistant, and romantic partner of Stieglitz, Norman was instrumental in establishing An American Place and furthering Stieglitz’s ambitious modernist mission in his final years.
