DescriptionGerman-born Ernst Richter was an early employee of Frederick William Saenger at St. Hedwig and Elmendorf who later started his own firm, the Star Pottery, in 1888. Early Star Pottery wares were salt-glazed, but the pottery later changed to commercial slip glazes, as seen on this example. Its straight-sided profile is typical of late 19th and early twentieth century stoneware production.
Provenance[Jon St. Clair, Austin]; purchased by William J. Hill (1934–2018), Houston; given to MFAH, 2012.
