DescriptionThomas Cranfill was born in 1821 in Rowan County, North Carolina; by 1851, he was on the tax rolls of Harrison County, Texas. He was soon in Calloway in Upshur County, Texas, where he was appointed postmaster in 1855. Records do not consistently refer to him as a potter; it is unknown where he learned the trade. He may have been associated with the potter T. P. Odom, but the nature of the relationship is unclear.
