DescriptionJames Allen was born in 1825 in Georgia or Alabama and moved to Texas about 1855. He was a son-in-law to Matthew Duncan and worked in Duncan’s Bastrop County, Texas, pottery and later on his own in northern Bastrop County or adjacent Lee County.
ProvenanceDr. Georgeanna Herman Greer (1922–1992); [Jon St. Clair, Austin]; purchased by William J. Hill (1934–2018), Houston, 2004; given to MFAH, 2012.
