[1] Louis-Gabriel Bellon (1819-1899) was a French archaeologist, painter, and passionate collector of antiquities born in Lille, France on October 20th, 1819. It is currently unknown where Bellon acquired this figure, but it was published as part of his collection by 1878 and displayed at teh Paris World Fair that year. This figure remained part of his private collection until his death on May 20th 1899.
[2] The Bellon collection was inherited by his son Paul (1844-1928) and then remained with the family through the 20th century.
[3] A significant portion of the Bellon collection were auctioned in 2009 (Jacques-Philippe Ruellan Auction), including this piece as no. 345.
[4] Acquired at this sale by the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston.
