Object Type
For Night Talk, Steven Beckly
constructed and photographed the quiet, intimate moments of new love. Highlighting
the subtle and often unnoticed lingering touches and unspoken glances that hold
heighted significance in early romance, Beckly photographed himself and his
partner in private, domestic settings. Using single-source lighting in an otherwise dark room, Night
Talk brings to life a late-night conversation fueled by coffee,
cigarettes, and the excitement of new love. In this image, Beckly obscures his
and his partner’s faces, underscoring the personal nature of shared intimacies.
ProvenanceThe artist, Toronto; purchased by MFAH, 2011.
