In the 1930s, the creative conditions for photography were ripe with possibilities. Technical difficulties were alleviated by handheld cameras and more responsive negatives. No longer reliant on awkward box cameras, artists embraced new visions of the world made possible by these advancements. Shooting from the floor, Václav Jirù captured a dynamic, worm’s-eye view of two young women preparing for the day.
