In 1948 the Photo League organized an exhibition titled This Is the Photo League. Unlike
previous League-sponsored exhibitions, this large show was created to help
recover its reputation after being listed by Attorney General Tom Clark as a
“subversive organization” the year before. Held in the Hotel Albert in New York
City and documented by League member John Ebstel, the exhibition featured work
from 94 past and present members, representing a diversity of subjects, styles,
and photographers.
