DescriptionThis is a copiously illustrated manuscript of a medical treatise copied in India in the 18th century. Originally composed by Persian physician Mansur ibn Ilyas in 1396, it was the first text of its kind in the Islamic world to show the anatomy of the entire human body; illustrations in previous works usually had been limited to specific body parts, such as the eyes and the teeth. The text is divided into chapters devoted to various anatomical elements: bones, nerves, muscles, veins, arteries, and organs.
